To Be Forgotten
I know it hurts, darling,
Knowing the world will go on as it was
Without you.
The sooner you learn,
The better.
This place is not a machine
Fueled by egotistical yearnings,
Churning in homage solely to your smile.
You will be forgotten.
The sooner you know,
The better.
Maybe it’s a dark way to think
And
Maybe it’s a negative way to live,
But it’s the truth.
A hundred years from now,
No one will remember your name.
The sooner you accept this fact,
The better.
Above all the puffs of white, the world comes into
Perspective.
You may disappear,
But oceans will still churn
And trees will still flutter
And suns will still shine.
Your end is not the end.
The sooner you understand,
The better.
We do not leave footsteps on this earth,
My darling.
The people we love
And the people who love us,
They will will disappear too.
Then who will love us?
Then who will remember us?
The good news is,
You are not at your end.
You’re reading this, after all.
(Unless you get hit by a bus, while reading -
That’s deeply unfortunate.)
Let’s say you have one minute left.
You turn to the one you love
And say the only words that leave
Any indentation at all.
“I love you.”
