The Conversation
“what is love?”
love is what I feel for you
“truly something real?”
yes, of course my dear
“is it always there?”
it is as present as I am
“what if it leaves me?”
I couldn't tear myself from you
“so I have nothing to fear then.”
nothing at all
“and I am safe.”
most certainly
“and you are here with me.”
always
“always?”
always
“that's a long time.”
not long enough to spend with you
“but darling,”
yes, love?
“what if you stop loving me?
I do not think that is possible
“it could happen.”
I think it is very unlikely
“but love is not definite.”
yes, I hate that nothing is definite
“me too.”
but never forget, a piece of me will always love you
“how small a piece?”
as much as my heart allows
“but you love me now?”
with all my being
“I think-”
yes, my sweet?
“I think I love you too.”
and to that, I smile

I wrote this during class. Poetry seems to hit me at the most inconvenient times. But I don't mind.
