Welcome Home
Say hello to your new home
My beautiful baby girl
Say hello to our new home.
You know nothing so far
About this strange country
This large city of concrete and steel
You do not know
What I have had to do
To meet even your basic needs
Not even the large copper lady
That holds high Her torch
Has seen from Her harbor perch
The hard work that tired me
The beading sweat that stung my eyes
All I’ve done for you and you alone
The things that I’ve done
To ensure a better life
That is why we are here
You may be small now
But you’re going to live a better life
Better than mine and your mama’s
And that is the promise She will grant
A promise of peace and freedom
A chance to grow up differently than us
It will be hard, I know
It will require a lot more than I could probably bare
But you are this new country’s future
You are the reason Her light shines bright
It’s young ones like you that give it purpose
And I hope the journey was worth it
