I remember it
so well – end of August,
the air still rife with heat,
the night stars, and
I felt

that I was a star
just beginning to realize
my so-called “brilliance,” and
for a moment I
believed

that life
was my thumb to bend
however far back I pleased,
maybe even breaking
a bone

if I wanted to.

"Be the change you wish to see in the world."

I really love the last stanza where you compare life to a thumb, and you can bend it and break and do whatever you want to the thumb. I think that has a sort of power that really connects with people. It is also a great metaphor on it's own. I think this is a fantastic poem and if you wanted to maybe change something, not that you need to at all, maybe say the night sky and not the night stars, because you say star two lines down. I don't really think it makes a difference, but if you want to be nit picky. Either way it is a beautiful poem.
