Where I'm From
I’m from a fresh sheet of ice yet to be torn up,
A sleek pane of glass that’s waiting to be destroyed.
I’m from a Christmas Eve skate in the backyard,
With my most influential coach, who also was the one who raised me.
I’m from a house where winning seemed as essential as life itself,
Where losing meant talks on the car ride home.
I’m from a family of competitors, who taught me to fight for myself.
In a world where “nobody gives you anything”, it’s the lesson I treasure most.
I’m from a home of where togetherness and separation are not too far apart,
A place where fame brought us stability, and death brought us devastation
I’m from a house where people think I have the perfect life
when in truth I wish we could trade.
I’m from a household that taught independence, selflessness, and how to be a family,
where “Love thy neighbor” was taken seriously.
I’m from a place in this world that few people know
but are searching for.
I’m from a place where everybody says they hate
But leaves.
I’m from a place I love
And a place that will impact me for as long as I live.
