one time, I was tired of being young
so i wished that I could be older
at the time, it was as simple as that,
but now I see it’s much more complex

because back when I was a little girl wishing to grow up
I was also wishing to care about what I looked like, and
to be left asleep on the couch instead of carried to bed
and to let go of everything I was ever used to

I always thought growing up would be fun
but it occurred to me that growing up is scary
and that the real world is a scary place
and I realized that growing up only brings you down
