The Light
You see it
it’s there
a light, flashing by
just out of reach
You feel it
it was there
so close, it was a part of you
an unexplainable
unattainable feeling
You need it
just out of reach, but not close enough
as the mound grows
you still see it shining
through the cracks
taunting you
You push it
the mound
but it is immovable, it is forever
but the light is there
shining through
both faint and light
You reach for it
your arm strains
it feels just close enough
that it warms
your fingertips
You can’t get it
no matter how hard you try
convinced it was always there
that you can hold it again
it was a part of you
You see it
a pinprick in the dark
maybe you never had it
maybe it was no more
than the shadow of a light
going out
But you still try
knowing it must be there
that it must be inside you
somewhere
lost
waiting to be found again
