Painting
You once told me the tide
ran parallel to the veins
spanning the underside of my forearm.
I watched you mark semicolons
with blisters
that cut through your collarbones,
Thinking I would look up
to watch you sink your teeth
into the base of my skull.
Too often,
you spent your time
admiring the scattered remnants
of black and blue;
A shared painting
between a hand
and the jaw of the stranger
that tore out the seams of mine.
