He sits by her bed
Holding her still hand
He hasn’t left
He hasn’t slept
She opens her eyes
But she can’t speak
What is she thinking?
What is it that she can’t say?
What is it that keeps her fighting?
He thinks he can fight for her
So he tries the best he can
But the weakness of his own body
Brings him to his knees
He prays and he hopes
He cries out to the skies
Why Lord why?
She closes her eyes again
As he crawls into the bed beside her
They tell him he can’t lay with her
But he stays there
Holding her still hand
The breaths get slower
The mind calms
As they both fall asleep
Asleep in a sleep that they won’t wake up from
Can you imagine that love?

This piece is an example of the love that my grandparents had for each other, before my grandmother passed away.
