Winter's Descent
January slips under the door with an icy chill
that finds its way
through jewel-toned cable knit sweaters
and brittle white bone.
December clutches tight
to the boughs of evergreen trees
uprooted from the living room glow.
With the settling of the snow on my eyelashes
comes thoughts of wet socks
and blood red cardinalis cardinalis
fluttering onto gravestones.
