Favorite Quote:
"We choose to go to the moon and do other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard. . ."

The setting sun strains her rays across the
Empty rooftops, kissing dark-capped top, turning the shadows into
Autumn-kissed bliss, smiling and sinking below the shale tiles leaving
Me Alone
Thinking.

The people on the street
Below run past as though the most
Important moment in their life
Was a block, or a mile, or a
Thousand miles away from our
Quiet Street.

I lean over the edge onto the tips of my toes. . .
Trying to get a better view of the people
Below, rushing past, all except one
Dark family standing in a circle below.
The quiet speck, standing still in a sea
Of Those Floating Around Them.

My eyes widen, as I see the shadow-haired family standing
On the quiet cobblestone street below, their
Eyes wide with shock and grief, before
Letting Out A Wail As One.
I look on curiously, unsure
Of why they were crying
And wondering why,
They Had Left Me On the Rooftop.

I was inspired to write this poem while sitting on the rooftop of my family's apartment, while on vacation in Florence, Italy.
