Knockout
Boxing isn't fun
And between you and me, you've already won
Because I am done gearing up just to get knocked down every time.
It's the same fight.
A pretty young face, kindly out to replace the lonely space that the last girl left.
I am flung, to the corner of the ring
Forced to watch like a dog in a crate.
Until she disappears, and fear creeps near
Because as short as this match may be
the knockout never fails to bring the hardest hit
And then boom! Deathly pinned, shin to shin, your devilish grin.
And you know, if you just help me to my feet
That this feeling of deplete will wash away.
A fresh start, for you and me
Until our wounds heal and we duel again.
But this?
This will be our final time on the mat.
Because I have played weak long enough.
When your arm pulls back for that one final swing,
I will duck your throw
Push you to the ground
Smile at your confusion.
Because it's over.
I forfeit.
I quit.
I'll turn in my gloves tomorrow.
