A Tale of Two Princesses
Who am I?
I was born of the deep blue sea
My education comes from the school of fish
For fun I explore the sunken ships of the past
Revealing their treasures and trying to solve their mysteries.
My life took a sharp right one night.
I fell in love.
What was it about him that stole my heart?
Was it his raven black hair?
Or was it his shimmering blue eyes?
My love for him made me do unthinkable things.
I saved him from the time his ship had sunk,
(Looks like there’s one more ship to explore for me),
I almost gave away my existence by singing him a song
And what’s the crazier than any of those things that I almost gave up my life just to be with him for three days without a voice
Without the knowledge of his world
And without my family to turn to for advice.
Three days and not a day more.
That was how long I had to make him love me
I have always believed in love at first sight
But what if that does not work in this situation?
What if I can’t make him love me?
What if three days is not enough?
I was stuck in a dead end.
My deadline had arrived.
I had not made any progress but my family helped me
I got them tangled up in a mess I made
My father almost paid with his life for my foolishness
I guess I finally understand what they mean when they say “Love makes us fools”
However despite my mistakes, my father let me be with the man of my dreams.
We were married on a boat in the middle of the big blue sea.
So who am I?
I am a mermaid born of the deep blue sea.
My name is Ariel.
Who am I?
My face is covered in cinder and soot
My clothes are mere rags, nothing fancy
My meal comes from the leftover scraps of the last night’s dinner
I serve in my own home
To my mistresses I’m nothing at all.
My mother went to heaven the day I was born
My father joined her years later,
But not without tying the knot again
To a cold and ruthless dame
That brought along her two simpleton daughters.
Together, the dame and the daughters had one goal in mind:
To make my life miserable in exchange for their life to be luxurious.
An announcement came from the royal family:
To have a ball in the king’s palace
Everyone rich or poor was invited.
Everyone could go, except for me.
Mistresses filled up my day with countless chores
I had no hope of ever going to the ball,
Until an old beggar woman came to my doorstep,
Claiming that she could make miracles come true,
But only until midnight.
As I walk into the castle, all eyes fall on me.
Never in my life have I felt so beautiful
In a floor length baby blue ball gown,
Glass slippers, and elbow length gloves that hide the roughness of my hands
I find myself looking in the eyes of the prince,
Looking at my own reflection in the obsidian eyes of the prince.
Then I am waltzing away in his arms and falling in love as the hours fly by,
One by one.
I ran when the clock struck midnight.
I left a slipper behind.
Just like the old woman said, all magic was gone
Except for the one glass slipper that I still have
And the other slipper that I left behind.
The royal family is looking for me but they don’t know how to find me.
I never gave my name or my whereabouts
So every maiden is to try the glass slipper.
The guards along with the prince are downstairs,
But I am locked in the attic.
I managed to pick the lock and make it downstairs just in time.
Mistress was so furious but the guards held her back.
I could see in the prince’s eyes some recognition of me
And he himself slid the slipper on my foot.
It was a perfect fit.
I then exposed the other pair and the mystery maiden was found at last.
Our wedding soon followed and we lived happily ever after.
So who am I?
I am the former servant of my stepmother and my stepsisters.
I am the princess of the far far away land.
My name was originally Ella, but because of cinder constantly covering my face,
My name is now Cinderella.
