Homesick
To smell familiar linen
and a strawberry scented build-a bear
to hear the cars passing by
Swooshing sprays of slushy storm water
Mundanity I crave
But I'm too busy, in a lousy lime green gown
with the smell of Tide
and teeth that haven’t been brushed
Sighs being passed around the room
On a scale of one to ten
I'm a drowsy fourteen with too much Zofran
I stare at the tubes puncturing my skin
and finally know how my mother felt
to be homesick
