She graces the subtle snow,
fragile, kissed by death

Elegantly still, transcendent
I marvel at her warm indifference,
for even in death she defies the cold,
stiff world

Mute screams of frigid air
lash against me, but
what, thus, is fire to us both?
She yields her quiet dignity,
and lends her tranquility
to me

Her feathers flutter,
shattered wings unvanquished,
for they lie soaring in
bliss

Death has bestowed upon her
the greatest triumph,
peace

I kneel beside her,
trembling amid the howls of winter wind
that cries dirges for her, but
Alas, she is victorious!
The air settles into a whisper
a quiet realization...
She is more alive than I
shall ever be.

Unconquered, she lies

triumphant, she flies.
