The Middle Ground
Like Adam and Eve,
He and I decided to be first;
Between love and hate,
There's a reason they call it a curse;
But, mom and dad didn't care to inquire;
He exchanged "remember when" for,
"Here we are now,"
And I swear when I met him, he was kinder.
I didn't care if he was good or bad,
Stung by this repellent need;
All those foggy nights watched through a veil,
I didn't doubt his fidelity.
Yet I'll stick around,
Vapor clinging to his breath.
I waver then wave him away-
Ties unfocused-
With a sweeping sashay,
I kiss the dream goodbye;
A funny little case.
Your funny little lie.
