The Basketball
Surface worn down like an old
miners hands.
Lines colored like coal; dark, tiny
valleys around the surface.
The name like the badge
on the worker’s shirts.
Scarred marks from play; scraped
by picks, hammers, dynamite.
But to fly through the air,
like a plane,
looking down at the goal,
instead of always looking up.
