"The fear of death is greater than the death itself. But the fear of the unknown is the greatest fear of all."
- Mark Callway (The Undertaker)

Blue.
All she saw was blue.
Natile blinked again, and looked around.
She looked down and gasped.
The pearl granted her wish.
She was a mermaid now.
She swam around,
not a hint of fear,
her seaweed green tail propelling her.
She ran into a shark,
who looked at her,
but swam away,
and made a motion like it was shrugging.
She continued on,
her blonde hair flowing
like the water she was in.
She found a lagoon,
where she sat, looking at the sky.
Her cat yellow eyes reflected the light.
She was free.
No longer did she have to worry about
if she would have a place to belong.
She belonged here.
This vast ocean,
unchanged by humans,
is where she belonged.
Flicking her tail,
splashing the water,
she looked at the pearl necklace,
the magic black pearl in the middle.
“Thank you,” she whispered,
her smile wide.
She looked out again.
No one could tell her she was wrong.
That she didn’t belong.
She was free.

This was originally a short story, written in Creative Writing, but I decided that it would work better as a poem.
