The Maze
The rocks shift under my feet.
The vines seem to crawl along the walls that surround me.
Whispering,
Laughing.
I run into another wall, dead end.
I sigh, resting my head against the cool stone,
shoulders sagging.
Somewhere behind me a light flickers and dies,
casting a cold shadow over the maze.
Perhaps the dark it brings is appropriate,
it gives my own somber shadows a place to hide.
Not that they need to hide,
I always know they are there
Following me,
Watching me.
The shadows of my past,
from which I am trying to escape.
But life is like a circle,
what you do always catches up to you
in the end.
