Please Come Back
An airplane flies over the horizon.
The wings breathe in deeply
As the engine roars out.
And slowly you fade.
Possibly never to be seen again.
Waiting, watching, hoping.
Fear bubbles inside me.
You never answer and
War is laughing thunder.
Sitting by the camera,
I see no face in the screen.
Something grabs at my throat but nothings there.
You never call, I hear no voice.
Its Tuesday.
I wait a week more,
Yet I wait in the dark.
4 o’clock 11 o’clock
The darkness laughs.
Crack. BOOM.
Invisible gunpowder fills the air
Countries torn apart
And our men sent out to stitch it again.
I wait by the phone.
4 o’clock 11 o’clock.
No metal birds in the sky.
The rumble of their engine never heard
As their contrail wisps away.
4 o’clock 11 o’clock
Dad, please come home.
