My Skin
look at my darkness
look at my skin
look at my beauty
standing next to my kin
look at us all
us all standing here
the night wrapped around us
holding us dear
we sing with the night
we dance with the moon
we make love with the dark
and rest in the shadows cocoon
my skin is my strength
in its darkness i stand
my hair is my crown
each and every strand
my neck is arched
from holding it high
my past is my pain, my pride
arms raised, touching the sky

Black girls, love the skin you're in. Whether its light as snow or deep and dark as ebony, love your skin. It is beautiful.
