Where I am from
I’m from Sanaa, the beautiful old city.
Yemen the country, and Asia the continent.
Islam the religion, 27 million the population.
I am from this coffee producer, first to build a skyscraper.
We were established from the ancient times,
and for the green trees we are known.
Vegetables, fruits, coffee, date palm and more to say.
Different heights and weights of trees how can I disclaim.
I'm not from the west nor the south,
but the Middle East is where I’m from.
We’re known to be generous and that’s why we are popular.
Love to help the poor and praise the rich. White or black we are from one nation.
I am from the day where Nelson Mandela was born.
July 18.
I am from hundreds and hundreds miles away.
But I will still say this is a new day.
I came from under the bright sun and rain covering the pain of light.
Normal family of 6, but still the youngest.
Family reunions don’t occur often, with a sister in Dubai and a brother in Nilai plus me in Merton. But one day the gather will happen.
I was from a country that once was called “The Happy land”
But I wish I were from The Mother land.
Love to touch the grass in our backyard when I’m listening to the national anthem.
And I am from the continent that our song (national anthem) is carved into our hearts.
I wish I were born when people used to sing (I love you, Yemen).
A country like this must be religious. We go to the Mosque every friday and pray.
Been raised and lived all my life singing the sound of dust.
Mountains are all over, and houses everywhere and that is where I’m from.
And I’m from Sanaa, the beautiful old city.
Yemen the country, and Asia the continent.
Islam the religion, 27 million the population.
I am from this coffee producer, first to build a skyscraper.
