Where I'm From
I was
From messy family football games as the rain spilled on the glistening concrete, slipping in grass and splashing in puddles,
From cleaning the house every Saturday, racing to complete the tasks assigned to us by our parents, the scent of Windex and dish soap wafting,
From the chalky outline on a baseball field stealing, sliding, and swinging with determination.
I am
From cheery and playful dance parties in the dining room of a deserted restaurant after close, penlights illuminating the once dark room,
From the sky dropping or growing into a wall filling the voids along the trees in the eyes of my father,
From adventurous drives in the early morning, fighting to remain awake as we search through stores.
I was, am, and will be
From teasing, taunting, and tormenting between siblings,
From the refreshing lake in the middle of summer, chilling water rising up in waves as the boat bounces to the shore,
From a job filled with pungent scents littering the air that I adore.
