Favorite Quote:
There are no small parts, only small actors.

Failure;
It’s a beautiful thing,
The way one person sees you is how you see yourself.
Your voice is terrible,
I don’t like your posture,
Your hair, your make-up, your face,
Nothing.
“You just weren’t what we were looking for,”
They say, “Not what we envisioned.”
Suddenly, I am a ship wreck,
Never to be found.
I am lost.
I can no longer be the same girl.
I’m not confident, not pretty:
Incompetent.

But so is that girl,
Who didn’t even want a lead role.

Or that boy,
Who “had it in the bag

Or me:
The one who wanted it so bad,
Who carefully studied the music and memorized the lines.
Who cried and cried because of a part.

That was me.
WAS me.
Not anymore.
I will never again be a
Failure.

This poem is about several experiences I have had with theater programs. Most people believe that being in theater is for the strong and confident. It's not. It's hard to have a good sense of self after being cut from a cast list. Believe me, I have thought more than once about my flaws because of someone else's opinion. More often then not, I get a lead role, but like everyone else, I've been told that I was not good enough. This poem is about failure as something we, ourselves create. With the right mind set, you are NEVER a failure.
