Wet Clothes
Wet clothes
gasping
can’t reach for air,
drowning, never ending
the struggle for air.
I’m breathing in water,
so salty and cold,
unwelcoming deep water,
in the lake that once was my favorite.
My dress is weighing me down,
take it off and maybe I have a chance..
Pitch black,
can’t let the fear overtake me.
The struggle for air,
when will I escape this nightmare?
I quickly remember the treading water I learned
in one isolated swimming lesson,
so I do that.
And I scream so someone could hear me.
Pitch black,
maybe I can survive this.
