The Grim Reaper
Exhaustion seeping through our veins
With every moment comes terrible pain
Blood rained from the cloudy sky
As we trudged away from where the bodies lie
Feet shredded like thin paper
The path to salvation begins to taper
But I truged on, assured that God was my keeper
Then I saw him, the Grim Reaper
We stood on the edge of the bottomless pit
At that moment, I inhaled a heavenly smell
What it was, I could not tell
Then I saw my comrade dropping
Chest heaving, eyes popping
That was when I grabbed my blessed saviour
And watched him bare his teeth in devillish behaviour
At that moment, our sore eyes met
Then his rolled back and set
Closer to the edge of the bottomless pit
We were all floating in a thick green cloud
Im very sorry to say I no longer felt proud
Several scenes flashed before my eyes
The most prominent, the King's terrible lies
And my dear mother on her death bed
"Don't go to war" Was what she said
His limp body jumped up with every bump
Every single time with a loud thump
Teetering on the edge of the bottomless pit
I couldn't hear any other sound
Except the loud gargling with every round
In a match he could not win
But only hope god forgave his sins
That was when I saw his again
The Grim Reaper had come to take my friend
And never was he to return
Alas, he was sent down to burn
He tumbled down into the bottomless pit

This poem is set in World War 1 and is written from the point of view of a solider and is about all the horrors of war. This poem was mainly inspired by Dulce Et Decorum Est, a poem written my British solider Wilfred Owen and set in World War 1.
