Hello
Rejection is a constant problem
For me,
If you could even call it that
Is it rejection when the person rejecting you
Does not know what they do?
This question always goes unanswered as
My heart leaps when they speak
As though a single, simple hello
Is a promise of something more
A promise of connection, of a relationship, of friendship or something beyond that
A promise of a break from myself
A promise of love for me
A promise that things will get better
A promise of a respite from the pain
That never seems to fade with the day
But the hello is gone as quickly as it was said
And goodbye stays much longer,
A recurring form of rebuff
That remains with the pain.
