Not For Them, Not Ever
They'll look at me differently now,
And say their 'awes' and their 'wows,'
As if I'm more presentable to all,
As if I'm a peculiar doll.
But I didn't do this for them.
I'm not the flower off their stem.
I did what I did,
Not to cast their bid.
Not to get the looks and the attention,
But for myself; not for a reaction.
This doesn't define me.
I'm not going through a phase.
I wanted to see,
Not to receive all the praise.
I am who I have always been.
And I love who that girl is.
She's humble and she's kind;
She is the ruler of her mind.
