Heart Swelling

He's alive and well,
Just fine and dandy.
I can't take the time to stop and dwell;
To think of taking another shot of brandy.
Isn't that how destructive behaviors muster?
They see how our silenced feelings cluster.
We have to find joy in the hard stuff.
Smile when we act tough.
He's happy today,
And I'll be happy for him and for myself as well.
Why should I be filled to the brim with dismay,
When I too have reason to let my heart swell?
