My Fortress Of Light
The pillow awaits.
My squinted eyes search the room until they fall upon the key to sleep.
The light switch.
I flick it then jump in bed and cuddle up,
Waiting for sleep to seek me.
The sinister night creeps beyond my covers,
But it can't penetrate my fortress of solitude.
Then morning breaks and beats the beasts away,
Until tonight when they'll seek me again.
Sleep still lies on my face as I roll out of bed,
Leaving my fortress behind.
I hobble through the day,
With sleep still clinging.
The day ends,
And I search for the key again,
The key to my fortress.
It's right where I left it.
I shimmy in to my fortress,
As I hear the beasts arousing around me.
Dawn breaks and so do the beasts.
All because of one little thing called light.
