Eve's Christmas
Three years Eve's husband had been gone
At a terrible war in which he was a pawn
Every morning was a teary dawn
Desolation defined her devillishly daily
She watched happy couples twirling gayly
Tears invading her face
Family and friends came and went
Presents recieved but none were sent
Many comforting kisses and hugs lent
Hanging, she was an empty stocking
Waiting, forever swaying and rocking
Tears invading her face
Eagerly, she listened for good news
Searching for signs, searching for clues
With everything to gain and nothing to lose
Soliders returned but none were him
Eve's world was pitch black and dim
Tears invading her face
She made the turkey and all the rest
But they were tasteless, like her world at best
She looked at the naked tree where insects had made a nest
Leaving the withering leaves gnawed, just like her heart
Spider webs were hanging from every part
Tears invading her face
With every moment she slipped further away
The misery seemed determined to stay
Then he appeared in the light of the day
His bright heroic smile illuminated her path
They embraced, and every piece of her was salvaged at last
Tears invading her face
