There are two ways to spread light; to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it. ~Edith Wharton

I stand on simple sands
Dreaming of faraway lands
Gentle oceans cover my barren toes
From whence they came, no one knows.

My feet sink into the dampened sand
The clock ticking with Time’s unstopping hand.
The air’s salty scent fills my nose
My breathing to how the wave come and goes.

I let out a sigh
As the seagulls perch so high,
Gazing at gliding kites
Reminding me of bitter nights.

Collapsing onto the sand
It conforms to meet the shape of my hand.
I feel so many emotions
So here I stay in these gentle oceans.

My head fills with doubt
Ugh, depression is not what life is about.
I’m so sick of this!
I need to be saved by a lover’s kiss.

I will feel power surge to my heart
And I will tear this hate apart.
No longer will I be slowly killed
By a knife ever so chilled.

So I stay here by these gentle oceans
And drink an affectionate potion.
Thinking of a lover’s touch
What I ask is not that much.
