Twin of the Twilight
I stand just beyond the dark screen of your eye,
peering out through the abyss
those that catch a glimpse call me sly
but to the curious ones I show them this
I reach out with my left palm, a blazing touch
and sear the surface of their thought
it might seem treacherous, but do not think such
because upon first glance they have already been bought
they call me a creature, with sharp points and a spear
a fallen spirit and downcast misfit of the divine
now and then a bellowing cackle or piercing cry they might hear
as I ascend to retrieve what is rationally mine
so enticing I am with my mirage and my tongue
that any man might want to kindle my spark
but if they climb the tall ladder and reach the last rung
descending angels will collapse and leave their mark
I guide every mad man with his sorrow
a true comfort to those that have everything left
I take from the ones who have only that which to borrow
and the original twin brothers I have cleft
you have driven me away and given me a name
sealed me up in a bottle that you won't find
just to hide this faulty, characteristic pain
while I drift surely through the depths of your mind
