Pretty
I wish that my mind was a sheet of paper
written in beautiful script
and every time it’s filled
I can just erase
every word on it
I wish I can just
erase you on it
I can still feel
our lips holding
onto each other
promising to
never let go
but we did
our love failed to be beautiful
failed to be perfect
but it was pretty enough
to link our tongues
and make poetry
not pretty enough
to stay
maybe that’s why
our ink drained
we had to use
watercolor paint
to renew
our piece of art
black for shade
white for light
red to fill in
our paper hearts
with the love
we lost along the way
we lost our hearts along the way
trying to make this love
beautiful
trying to make this love
perfect
but we stopped at
pretty
pretty enough to
link our tongues
and make poetry
not pretty enough
to stay.
