I'm Fine
I’m fine.
The phrase you say everyday,
No matter who asks.
Whether it’s a teacher
Or a stranger.
There’s no need to burden them.
You can control your problems.
Until...
You can’t.
It’s the middle of the night,
And you’re sobbing as you
Take the blade from your drawer,
The metal glinting in the moon’s light.
Slowly dragging it across your skin,
The crimson liquid welling up
And running down your arm.
That’ll leave scars.
You feel better the next day.
Giving pretend smiles.
Trying to enjoy the time you have
Until it happens again.
But for now, you’ll just say;
I’m fine.
