Death Walks
Sleep never fell upon my bloodshot eyes
With the fear of what the Demon
Of sleep will bring upon my yellow starred self
Uneven thumps of aching feet
That slap the pavement
Straight backs of silhouettes
Traveling through that damp night
That surrounds me with an icy grip
The angered growls of hollow stomachs
Are almost as Empty as the murky Abyss
In the eyes of those that surround me
Lost beyond hope as all hope is lost
Trembling hands from all the Horrific
Events they have seen and those in the future
Struggling past homes barren Without light
Shadows who watch from their windowsill
Look on as an old man collapses
As the sound of death fills the gloom
Burning my throat with an Ashen gunpowder
As others trudge on through the unknown
Without Looking to see the corpse
Yet careful enough to step over the body
He was not the first to fall victim
To the hunger that washed over us like a tsunami
To the exhaustion that left some gasping
Not the first to be Killed without mercy
There was no mercy in the darkness
I must not close my eyes for if I do
The darkness with overtake me and drag me under
A riptide Swallowing an unsuspecting child
And the haunting nightmare will begin anew

I was inspired to write this poem when learning about the mass murdering of Jews during the Holocaust. This unit touched something in my heart that I could not put into regular words, so i decided to put all these feelings into a poem. So here it is. I hope you enjoy ;)
