shadow

i hide
all day
all night
overshadowed
by people who came first
i never leave the shadow
of people
who are bigger
and better.
i live in the shadow
that hides me
i am unseen
unheard
unknown.
i want to leave my shadow
but i cannot.
until one day
the door is open
i can walk away
leave my shadow
but i don't.
i can't.
my shadow has trapped me
i'm scared to leave my shadow.

i wrote this in eighth grade...i came across it yesterday, and i'm proud to say that i have learned to be brave enough to walk away from my shadow.
