Diamond Ring

July 17, 2015

People are so focused on the diamond part of the relationship
That they forget that along with being shiny and beautiful
It is also hard and rocky

What are you going to do
When that diamond no longer shines
And it becomes dull and unappealing?

Throw it away or keep polishing it
So that people can see the beauty of its
Outer appearance; outer not inner

When that beauty fades
And you can no longer polish it
Will you get a new one?

No, you stick by the diamond
Even when it is dull and unappealing
Because as time goes on

You’ll start to notice that
The rough hardness of the diamond
becomes smooth

And it still sparkles in the sun
when you hold it
at just the right angle

I was inspired to write this piece when I was on the train and I saw a woman glance at my finger as though the fact that my ring held no diamond did not appease to her. This is for everyone out there that believes that a diamond is everything. Although it does bring about a certain degree of happiness; that happiness takes work to achieve and represents something a lot deeper than what the outer appearance can show you.
