Somebody Who Can Watch You
It had never occured to him that one day,
The pain he had contiuned to endure
Could suddenly leave.
Except the way it left,
Terrified him to no end.
It didn't go away because the pain had ended,
It ended because he felt nothing anymore.
Sadness was replaced with numbness,
It was better when he felt something.
When he felt anything really.
It at least reminded him he was still living
Now he doesnt know anymore,
He can't tell if he's alive,
Or just floating in the world.
No purpose,
No one to love him,
No one to love back.
Just there.
For one split second he almost accepted it.
He saw her picture on his wall and remembered her words.
'Is there somebody who can watch you?'
He hadn't had an answer then,
He had one now though.
'No.'
He barely whispered to himself.
'You were supposed to watch me.'

The inspiration for this poem came from the song 'Is There Somebody Who Can Watch You' written by the 1975. The point of this poem is that sometimes the people we love the most leave sometimes, even when it hurts so much we still have to try and pick up the pieces to ourselves, because that's what the person we love would have wanted for us.
