A Letter to the Media
I hate you
for making me hate myself.
For telling a 13 year old
to stare down her reflection
and hack away the lumpy parts.
For telling a shy girl
to wear tighter clothes
so she'll make the "right" friends.
For telling a curious girl
to put down her hand in class
saying, "No one likes a know-it-all".
For telling me
that it was MY fault
when he touched me like that.
I hate you
for making me hate myself
and change myself
and break myself.
But now i know
how strong i can be
in the face of adversity
and that though i may crack and break
I will always be there
to pick up the pieces
and make myself whole once more.
