I Come from a Country like America

I come from a country
like America,
a democratic
and
prospering nation.
I come from stereotypes
about where I was born
that aren’t even true.
I come from a country
with tense relations with its neighbor,
the northern part
called North Korea.
A communist,
struggling nation
with a nuclear reputation.
I’m from intelligence
and
manners,
From book smart
and “please and thank you’s.”
I’m from try-hards
and know-it-alls.
I’m from sports
from soccer to running.
I come from two uniquely different families,
from my birth parents (that I have no memory of) and my current parents.
From being received by them at an airport
To being raised by them along with a sister.
I come from hard work
and
responsibility,
from staying up late to finish schoolwork,
to doing my job right.
I come from science fiction
and
action films,
from Star Wars and James Bond.
In my computer I have folders of memories.
Photos of selfies, family, and friends.
Each photo serves as a memory,
Each was taken as I got older
a throwback to the good ol’ days.
