Winter Fall
Hidden beneath the roots of a tree
An alcove dug into its flesh
Huddled in a little ball, shivering
With my knees drawn up to my chest
My arms wrapped around them
Enveloped by the warmth of the hickory tree
As dusk eventually fell
I watched the blue of the sky
Fade to a deep violet
Speckled with bright distant lights
The colors of bright autumn leaves
Eaten up by darkness ahead
I watched winter fall
As the heart of autumn came to an end
In the whiteness of the clouds
Descending to the earth
In the form of cold snowflakes
Chilly night air
That smells of autumn death
I was the sun rise at dawn
Warm, yellow glow of a pretty face
Heating the earth to the very roots
A new life flows through plants now
A yellow-green glow, a sweet substance
Healing the wounds winter inflicted
On souls so alive and young hearts
