Story Of A Family
How can you act like
Everything is okay?
You just got out of jail.
And there is a baby on the way.
We’ve never had it easy,
But it’s about to get real hard.
Your mom left a year ago,
And we can’t afford a car.
We said we’d try harder,
When the stick came back with a plus.
We said we’d do all we could
To make sure she wasn’t like us.
You promised to never walk out.
You said you’d never be like your dad.
You said you’d never hit me
Even if you got mad.
I said I’d be a good mother.
I’d know what our child was doing.
I would never raise our baby
To grow up like we did.
I gave up my life for you
All because of love.
I loved a strong boy,
Not a street-rat thug.
Yeah, things are getting hard,
But I know they can get better.
We have to try our best,
And we have to stick together.
