Gardener
one day you’ll meet someone who’ll make the words “I love you” start to form inside of you
you won’t notice it right away
but they’ll be there, letters assembling from your veins
burning into your bones
sprouting like a sapling that’ll be lucky enough to live
or doomed to die
and maybe on a summer night
while you’re lying on the concrete counting constellations
or on a winter morning
while you’re staring sleepily and stirring coffee
you’ll feel those words
they’ll catch in your throat
like you’re trying to breathe in the wind
and you’ll want to craft your own constellation
so you can write each letter for the galaxy to see
you’ll want to show up at their door
and you’ll want to tell them,
I love you.
