Flames in the Dark
You hide like faded drapes,
old beauty transformed to a
fire hazard that seals yourself in
and blocks out all light.
You used to be brave,
chasing away fears with flashlights in the dark.
You used to be driven,
long nights studying after the sun’s dim exit.
You used to be euphoric,
enthusiasm filling each crease of your face.
You used to shine bright
but your bulb
has burned out,
and now we both
live in darkness.
