"Write hard and clear about what hurts-"
&
"You are so brave and quiet I forget you are suffering,"
-- Ernest Hemingway

I am lost. Ripped in between tidal waves that claw at a shore they will never breach. Magnificent ferocity in epic proportions with a magnitude unlike any recorded in the history of time. They erect with power and crash against each other causing catastrophic damage for miles in all directions. I am but a small pebble thrown between them, told to halt their rage. But I, only a pebble, am thrown between sides and flipped through a watery brawl. When hurting the other becomes tasteless they throw themselves against the cliffs. Battering their tides toward the top. Strangling the rocks to climb and attempt to pull themselves over. Only to find they are yanked back down colliding with the restless ocean. Their cries are shown in the white foam lifting above the rest and they continue to conform to this push-pull way that finds them nowhere. Except splayed against rocks leaking inside the crevices. Attacking each other they note how similar they are. Made of the same substance and fighting against the same tide. I realize even as they are calm, they brush against themselves daily. Rubbing at each other, friction building until the storm finds them a swift tsunami.

The author's comments:

I was inspired to write this piece because of two very close friends. At times they may seem calm, however, they're constantly in a "push-pull" way. In time this friction will build and they will release the long suppressed tension.
