Darkness Embraces
They say it's scary
They warn me
They lock the doors
and bolt the windows,
Afraid to let it in
They sit on the edge of my bed and speak
Of monsters and murders
All things bleak
I believe them at first,
After all, they're older
they should know better,
right?
Until the time
I dared to rebel,
I was angry,
frustrated,
doubtful--so doubtful
That's when I opened the door
That's when I stepped outside
That's when I realized
The truth
Darkness
Night
Enveloping blackness,
Weren't at all like they said
It wasn't creepy,
Just peaceful.
It didn't promise danger,
just pleasant surprises
And everyone likes surprises,
Right?
Why do they say it's bad?
Why do they warn me time and time again,
That darkness is only for evil?
They fear what they don't understand.
They don't understand,
that darkness--as opposed to popular thought,
darkness embraces love

It seems that everyone fears darkness. Maybe it's time for that to change.
