Sharing Gloves
Sharing gloves
Is a surprisingly intimate act
You never stop and say
"Sharing gloves is
Way too private,"
And yet,
Only after we've done so
Do we realize the meaning
She put my gloves on
Her hands,
Only for kicks and
Because it was cold
All a joke,
Another reason to laugh,
Another thing to
Make us smile
Something cheap,
Another weird human innovation,
But there was more there
Than just
The itchy cloth fabric
She put her hands in
My gloves
Gloves that warm my hands,
Hands I touch the world with -
Did she feel my touch?
(I certainly felt hers)
More than merely lending
I know
More than purely generosity
I'm sure
I think that maybe
When I put the gloves on now
They're just a little bit
Warmer.
