New Mexico Spring MAG
I sit here, sweltering
The window a magnifying glass
The sun gets under my skin
Embers spark a thousand flames
Black fabric smothers my body
Trapping me in the heat
The whole car a solar cooker
I’m the brisket on today’s menu
No matter how much water I drink
I could not make this body rain
Hot warmth hugs my insides
I’m locked in hundred-degree misery
My skin sparks cool, then itches
The sun strikes through all cloth
A cloud skims lazily across the sky
Finally,
A break.
