We are the Nerdy outcasts
We are the simple rebels
Bonded together.
Bodies filled with cowardice. Alas!
Our “meaningless” words, when
We speak our words
They are friendly and kind.
As old acquaintances meeting again
Or the scent of a long gone family member
In our memories.
Friendship without fear, bravery without weakness,
This is what we need.
(II)
We find ourselves lost within ourselves,
Unsure of who we are,
What we’ve done,
The last time we had a decent home-cooked meal
That wasn’t prepared from a box or a drive thru.
The only thing we can be sure of is that
We are teenagers.
It may not be the best life,
But we do the best we can
With what we have.
(III)
Our minds expand and contract with
The constant input of knowledge and drugs.
Both with the potential to cause and relieve the pain
Inside our heads.
The counter response to this would typically be the following:
Emo
Loser
Stoner
Freak
Each one more painful and scarring than the last.

Graduation
Celebration
More school
All of this for better education and higher paying jobs
Pshht
More like a war ground for teens becoming adults.
A war ground where stress leads to drugs and being caught
With drugs means being kicked out.
An endless supply of potential drug addicts and future failures arriving in carloads
Every
Semester.

Well,
Welcome to college graduation.
People you never talked to your entire four years here
Finally find you as interesting as a celebrity.
A party
Celebrating four years that you’ll never get back
Mistakes
Lack of sleep
All to get a good paying job.
You’ve probably already forgotten
Your fellow high school outcasts,
Your real friends.
They’re probably already gone.
Probably dropped their Snapchat and Tumblr
For some new fad that’s sweeping the nation,
Or gone for good.
Well,
Welcome to the rest of your life.
For outcast
Is
Your Title.

I originally wrote this for an assignment in my Senior English class in highschool. Just thought it should be shared.
